Lancaster Project: 1970 Hot Air Engine

Built in the early 1970’s by James E Lancaster of Mt Savage, Maryland. The engine was built for and influenced by Russell Harvey of Oakland, Maryland. This is the only known hot air engine built by James.

The Lancaster Projects were built by hand by both crafting and salvaging. These wheels were from disassembled old farm machinery. The deck plate was once part of a service truck. The piston and cylinder sleeve was part of a Caterpillar D-9 engine. And the flywheel was once part of a 4-horsepower gasoline engine.
